What I do, Who I am
I’m Clarity Mitrisin, the senior of the 2016-17 class working on the apiculture unit of the EDHS Natural Resources program. My project involves maintaining the beehives and the beehouse on the East Campus, and includes the jarring and selling of honey and the growing of plants in our campus greenhouse for a bee garden come this spring.
The Time of My Life
Honestly, this has been my dream come true. I have always loved bees and this opportunity has been such a wonderful experience. I came into the NR program as a senior because I wanted to be a part of the apiculture unit, and it ended up that I became the only beekeeping student this year. I wasn’t brought up in this program as freshman, but I feel welcome nonetheless.
As of right now, I’m planting seeds for the spring when the bees start foraging again and when the new garden is built. This past year, I have taught third grade classes about bees and made my own labels for the jars of honey I’ve sold for the program. I have amazing mentors to go above and beyond for me in this program and Ms. Potter, my Cal 2 teacher, does everything possible to help me succeed.
Looking Towards the Future
This program has given me countless accolades to add to my resume. The mandatory volunteer hours for NR has given me experiences to talk about in letters for scholarships and colleges. I get experience for my wanted career in Graphic Design through the art on my honey jar labels and A.P. Art portfolio that focuses on my work in apiculture.
